La Tarantella by Grassini Family Vineyards
Set on 102 acres of land amidst the Santa Ynez Mountains, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, La Tarantella by Grassini Family Vineyards was originally designed and built by Los Angeles architecture firm Choate Associates as a private residence. The original homeowners’ passion for Spanish, French and Italian architecture lead them to integrate interior architectural elements such as columns, fireplace surrounds and lighting that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries.
Grassini Family Vineyards, along with Corinne Mathern Studio transformed La Tarantella into an event and hospitality space in 2022. Today the property welcomes guests through large, rustic mission doors into a courtyard that leads to 6,500 square feet of interior space. Corinne Mathern Studio and Grassini Family Vineyards collaborated heavily to create a welcoming and refined property that make guests feel at home.
“The exterior of the property is a terracotta colored plaster that we wanted to let sing. We designed the space to play off the color’s lightheartedness.”
Corinne Mathern Studio pulled hues of the olive trees, vines and hills to the interior through a muted palette of neutrals, sage greens, dusty blues, chocolate browns, deep rusts, tans and creams for a sense of harmony. Corinne Mathern Studio designed the oak millwork throughout the entire property to complement the cedar and Douglas fir ceilings. With simple flat front panels, the millwork brought a modernism to the property that was necessary.
Throughout the space, vintage architectural elements were carefully preserved and juxtaposed with modern pieces to create a pared back feel with a subtle fresh twist. Featured throughout the property is vintage furniture and lighting by Goran Malmvall, Lutah Maria Riggs and Guillerme et Chambron along with multiple custom furniture pieces by Corinne Mathern Studio.
